@mrteexd @unfa when was it open in the first place? gpt-3 data set is not open and its use has been behind a very rigorous NDA.

@falktx @mrteexd Well, AFAIK the goal was to provide general.purpose AI that'll be publicly available. If everyone has it, no one can abuse it (I guess). They've shifted from non-profit to for-profit. I guess they should rename as well :/

@unfa @falktx @mrteexd yeah, the naming issue has certainly been brought up - even Elon (who departed the board years ago) was critical of the new direction of the company. The truly open AI research is being done by EleutherAI now, which seems quite competitive: venturebeat.com/2021/05/15/gpt What seems a useful pursuit to me, is a good distributed means of running the models. While I know parallel computation is useful for AI, I have no idea if such a thing is even feasible.
