Currently testing making public my current FLOSS work status, with a kanban-style board. Not just to make others aware of short/medium-term plans, but also things that are currently being worked on behind the scenes that usually are not seen until a big flashy release.

What do you think?

@falktx If you want to ask people for money to sponsor you, I think you owe to them to keep them up to date with what you're working on.

@be that is sorta the idea, as likely monthly updates might be too spread out and too few.
that said, writing about current progress also takes time, sometimes from the actual work in question.. so there is a balance to achieve here, I think.

@falktx Personally I think monthly updates are sufficient for that purpose. Nevertheless this board is nice. It can be helpful to organize your own work and helpful to communicate with anyone who may want to collaborate with you. We use a board like this on GitHub for Mixxx. We kinda slack on it but it is really helpful as a release is coming up. After this next release I want to outline a long term roadmap to Qt6 on those boards.

@falktx That's not to say a board like this is the only way to do that, but this is cool!

@falktx is looking really great! just one question, what do the colors mean? red is because is kinda "expired"?

@reiso well, my overall idea is..

yellow: packaging stuff or related to kxstudio repositories

orange: articles or things to write (usually releases or news)

green: coding task which is similar to something I did before, so "easy" to do

red: bugfixes

blue: porting over something that already exists/was done before. involves boring, copy, paste & adjust work

pink: brand new projects or things to do, which usually involve learning, research, testing, etc. can take long.

does that make sense?

@falktx yes it does, but i think maybe setting a card or a link to what these colors mean or even to what tags they're related can help

personally when I see a red card I tend to automatically relate to something that should be already done, maybe spending too much time in trello made me see things this way

@reiso I see, thanks for the input. I have used trello maybe once in my life, so really not used to what colors are often picked for what things.

I will see about adding some header or footer notes about what each color means. can simply be another todo item there :P

@falktx i like that a lot! Do you already have a feature request where people or organizations could ask for features? Could also be a decent revenue stream if people could sponsor some features? Either via patreon tiers voting or maybe one time bounty/donation.

@ilvipero good idea. I do not think I can take new feature requests at this point, as there is a whole lot of stuff I want to get finished first, but something to revisit and start planning for in April. I will add this to the backlog, thank you!

@falktx No worries, glad to be helpful. Many people benefit from your work, so if you can be happy and make a living doing it, many people will be happy 👍 😀
