@gperson is there an option where it doesnt matter? similar things can be achieved in both

@unfa sadly such design is totally unlike what Rack does internally.

I have similar goals that I want for it, because I want this wasm UI to be able to control a remote instance. But as it stands it is just not possible. Either some very smart tricks need to be found, or major engine rework to be done, before this is even possible.

@unfa define what multiplayer is on this context, cause I dont know..

@unfa forgot to say, press "run" on the top-left module after loading

@unfa you can pass it a patch file in the url if you want to show case some cool stuff to people.

so for example cardinal.kx.studio/?patchurl=h loads a nice "little" techno patch
(warning: needs quite the beefy cpu)

Just wrote up a little summary on my current (work-related) situation, which I can finally talk about after MOD has made its situation public.

Tough times and terrible timing too.

Sonoj Convention 2022 has been cancelled, but there's a bright lookout into the future!

Sonoj Convention was created as an annual event to bring together the open-source music-making community and facilitate meeting in person, getting to know each other.

sonoj.org/

Sonoj now has it's community chat: chat.sonoj.org (based on Matrix).

Hopefully we can bring this event back in 2023!

Here's an interview I did with Nils, the event creator in 2019:

@unfa the fight for those micro-controllers is already lost, but at least on a higher-level we can still control the OS to a point. taking that away just to be able to run a few games is not great.

the wider linux adoption often involves things that opensource does not benefit from. on the contrary, companies want to use the opensource tools as base to build their commercial proprietary offerings. with the gains very rarely trickling down

I just dont expect good things from a mass-market linux

@unfa Doing things because it helps Linux adoption is the problem.
That is how we get DRM in browsers, kernel-level locks, almost-spyware-like monitor tools and other crap.

IMO it is quite fine if Linux does not have these.

@unfa @snailerotica it did not read/appear as satire to me..

on the topic of old native games, I find it hard to feel pity for proprietary software that no longer runs.
if one is interested on the longevity and preservation of some software tool, the first step is to make it open.

@unfa they removed something that has been deprecated for 16 years. I think after a decade it is safe to do so..

and you know they dont intentionally go look for things to break, right?

it is more likely that the old hash was a maintenance burden that no one wanted to maintain anymore, alike X11 and similar very old things.
or could be simply that new version had a little cleanup in a few places, removing code no longer used or touched in decades.

tbqh I hate this approach of telling stories

@utopify_org I pay for the server and run peertube on that. It is from hetzner, currently around 42eur/month.

Could be seen as expensive sure, but server has been working without any issues and I host there a bunch of stuff that would otherwise be on google cloud or whatever. I rather pay a premium and not use those.

Can someone recommend a #peertube instance?

I want to publish videos about #sustainability #climate #environment #veganism #greenenergy #solarpunk but can't find an instance which goes into this direction.

Thanks a lot for your help 😊

@utopify_org I dont have real recommendations, but can offer my instance if you want to upload such things there. working more as a fallback-in-case-others-go-offline more than the entry point.

see peertube.kx.studio/ for what it has at the moment, it is all audio related at the moment.

@LWN there is a clear way to fix that, kinda.

let's interact more!

doing my part, hope it helps 😊

LWN's Fosstodon account was created because we had requests for a feed here. Now somebody has reported us as a spam account and we are getting warnings from the moderators. Evidently we aren't interacting enough. So it may be that this stream is about to go away, our apologies.

VST3 plugin support is reaching stable status.
Finally got most things implemented, in a way that is similar to what is present for VST2.

The entire DPF-Plugins collection (besides 1 plugin) is now loadable in hosts like Ableton Live. The only exception I see are plugins that have optional buses (like sidechain) or types that Live cannot cope with (like pure generators without audio or MIDI input)

Should be time to make a new release then...
