@unfa Doing things because it helps Linux adoption is the problem.
That is how we get DRM in browsers, kernel-level locks, almost-spyware-like monitor tools and other crap.
IMO it is quite fine if Linux does not have these.
@unfa @snailerotica it did not read/appear as satire to me..
on the topic of old native games, I find it hard to feel pity for proprietary software that no longer runs.
if one is interested on the longevity and preservation of some software tool, the first step is to make it open.
@unfa they removed something that has been deprecated for 16 years. I think after a decade it is safe to do so..
and you know they dont intentionally go look for things to break, right?
it is more likely that the old hash was a maintenance burden that no one wanted to maintain anymore, alike X11 and similar very old things.
or could be simply that new version had a little cleanup in a few places, removing code no longer used or touched in decades.
tbqh I hate this approach of telling stories
@utopify_org I pay for the server and run peertube on that. It is from hetzner, currently around 42eur/month.
Could be seen as expensive sure, but server has been working without any issues and I host there a bunch of stuff that would otherwise be on google cloud or whatever. I rather pay a premium and not use those.
Can someone recommend a #peertube instance?
I want to publish videos about #sustainability #climate #environment #veganism #greenenergy #solarpunk but can't find an instance which goes into this direction.
Thanks a lot for your help 😊
@utopify_org I dont have real recommendations, but can offer my instance if you want to upload such things there. working more as a fallback-in-case-others-go-offline more than the entry point.
see https://peertube.kx.studio/ for what it has at the moment, it is all audio related at the moment.
VST3 plugin support is reaching stable status.
Finally got most things implemented, in a way that is similar to what is present for VST2.
The entire DPF-Plugins collection (besides 1 plugin) is now loadable in hosts like Ableton Live. The only exception I see are plugins that have optional buses (like sidechain) or types that Live cannot cope with (like pure generators without audio or MIDI input)
Should be time to make a new release then...
Everybody knows Audacity, but are there more audio editors on Linux? After so many years the answer is still... "Kinda!" :)
Here is my review of 8 audio editors for Linux that are not Audacity or one of its pride forks.
This is also where I have to say that the Qt6 port of ReZound largely works.

Light mode saga continues...
Now instead of color inversion and trickery for making panels dark, we do the contrary and make some dark panels white. :D
@wrl this looks good now?
Will need to have a few authors about this, as sadly not all artwork is liberally licensed, some needs explicit permission for usage and distribution.. Hopefully they can be convinced.
Yay for color/theme consistency!
Just did a "mini" build version of Cardinal on the web, see https://minicardinal.kx.studio/
Only contains core and fundamental modules, extras like carla/ildaeil are also not in there.
The intention is to have something that is quick to load, so I can more easily show it to people, and also place it in a "software portfolio" I am working on.
The mini version assets have a combined 15Mb size. It is small enough that Firefox is happy to cache the page, so that's nice :)
Feel free to use and share!
@faben70 there is some info her https://github.com/jpcima/ysfx but that is not documentation. intention is to have full compat, if not report a bug there.
guis are not supported in carla yet.
@wrl yep, that makes it "WIP" ;)
There are other unreadable bits, and the screw needs to be silver one instead of black.
Plus integration in a few modules, because this was never an official VCV Rack feature.
For an initial test, I think it is good. Now it will need more tweaks to finalize it, but it was important to see first if it could be done. And yes it can :)
Not everyone is happy with Cardinal pushing dark colors everywhere.
A little bit of white then.
Feels very weird after being used to dark mode.
Still WIP, will finish up the details for this later on, but shows promise.
Can likely be an official feature in 22.08.
The cool part is that it changes during runtime!
And now it is time for Carla.

It is 2 releases at once, wow!
JSFX plugin support and SDL engine driver are highlights, and some little extras to keep everything updated.
Not an exciting release perhaps, but a necessary one.
It is release day! and night, because I am always late for these things.
Anyhow, first of the set is here, and it is Cardinal 22.07 🐦

Mostly bugfixes this time, hoping keyboard input is more reliable now.
Trying a bunch of daws for helping debug plugin related issues, I am seriously impressed how bad Steinberg makes everything.
Want to download a trial? Here, please write your email so we can send a link. Oh and please subscribe to our newsletter before continuing, and no, you cannot install a demo without subscribing.
What's that, you want to use the app now? Oh silly, you need to download a manager, to then a licenser, to download the app.
Why???
err I will need a clean OS install after this
Hi folks, if you use Cardinal please help a bit with testing for the keyboard input issue.
Way too many reports of things that work or dont work, it is a mess..
I have made a ticket to track down exactly where things are working, and where they are not.
https://github.com/DISTRHO/Cardinal/issues/304
If you'd be so kind, please start your daw, run through the test criteria, and write results at the end.
Thanks!
