@phr sounds like you need a limiter then, not a compressor.
they are similar but not quite the same.
@pixelflowers @phr sounds doable with carla, specially if most applications you use go through pulseaudio and you have pulseaudio->jack bridge setup. (so you dont need to reconnect stuff too much)
under ideal conditions, I am having 10ms latency for browser audio "recording".
this does not take into account internet/network, just local.
it is not very stable at that, often being at 20ms and at worse 40ms.
I dont think it is possible to go lower than this for the inputs.
now, from my tests before the playback latency is usually much lower, but still have to find a good way for this in native code and no more python...
@unfa the same thing happens with ebook readers, you need to connect to a wifi and register account just to open-up the "browse books" section / skip the tutorial.
the whole thing has a bunch of analytics built-in so they can know as much stuff about you as possible, so they can try to sell you books through their built-in store.
luckily it is possible to hack the device by connecting to the PC and editing a DB file. thus never connecting to a wifi.
yes really annoying, and it is everywhere!
Been doing some tests regarding audio latency in browsers, with intention of lowering it for realtime use.
The results are not so great...

WIP, have some ideas still on things to try.
PS: Yes I did try WebRTC as well, but that doesn't matter for these tests yet because I am still running everything locally.
@falktx
In this case, the matrix bridge helps a lot imo. Matrix users appear as bots in discord, this sometimes start a conversion about matrix among discord users. Another thing to keep in mind is to never promote such platforms - in the above message, he could've at least mentioned matrix and talk about discord as a second option. I don't know what he himself use, but its better to be on a FOSS platform, so that his followers see him use it and maybe decides to join.
@futureisfoss fair enough. but feels very odd (to say the least) to be asking people to join such platforms.
it is a tricky situation... as a developer I do not want to promote or even tolerate abusive choices from some platforms. yet 99% of people are on there.
it sets a bad example for others in my view, where it can easily lead to the impression that these platform practices are tolerable.
so while we purposefully avoid those places, how do we reach their people at the same time? we can't :(
Surprise, JACK output support for FFmpeg.
so we can receive audio from rtp, udp, pulse, alsa, whatever else and redirect straight to jack \o/

@wolftune interesting. it worries me reading:
> If those fumes are not vented outside the house, they linger and sneak into lungs
is this (not having air vents) a common issue in america or something?
@Linux4Everyone@fosstodon.org it is not gatekeeping to want open-source, privacy-respecting tools for the community.
might as well be on facebook then, it has the largest amount of users possible.
as someone who cares about my own privacy, sorry but services like those are abhorrent.
on an alternative POV.. what about all the people that are not ok with discord ToS? they can't join your community.
A new release of the #FOSS #LV2 #audio re-sequencer plugin #BJumblr is just out now. Now with improved compatibility and language support starting with EN and DE. Any further translations by the community are welcome.
And also an update to JACK2.

First off, tagging Carla v2.3 as stable, after some well needed fixes of course!
