Fedi is the most strange thing in the world.

On normal social media, you write a message and people just ignore it forever.

Here, you write a message, it stays ignored for 1 or 2 years, and then all of a sudden, for no reason, with no explanation, someone finds it somehow, boosts it, and it gets 200 likes and 120 boosts.

What the fuck.

I'm sure someone will boost this message in 2021 or 2022.

@unfa @Openmastering Need to issue some corrections.

1. Saying it is a "community project" should not be taken literally.
It is part of the distrho-ports project sure, but as of today there was not really "community" to be seen. The changes made in github.com/DISTRHO/DISTRHO-Por are still all by me. The currently open pull requests are not related to Vitalium.

2. Nothing in Vitalium is Linux only. I provide macOS and Windows builds of Vitalium LV2, among others, as part of github.com/DISTRHO/PawPaw/rele

@murks @unfa @unfa Nothing stopped the commercial vendors from using VST2 and VST3 for that, we do not need clap to push closed-source proprietary plugins on Linux.

Clap is not going to magically turn the tides for this. If anything, some plugins and hosts will be released with clap support for Windows and macOS but not Linux.
That is already the case for multitrackstudio.com/ btw

@murks @unfa @unfa depends on what you mean by "chance".

I have many high-quality LV2 plugins installed on my system, all of them opensource. For Linux-audio, LV2 was/is the format to go for a long time. Other systems have other formats that are more popular.

Anyway my point is - depending on your usecase and point of view, LV2 can be considered a success already. People have been using and developing for LV2 already for many years.

Popularity contests are a bit meaningless in opensource.

@unfa @unfa isnt LV2 good enough though? as mentioned in other places, there are things LV2 can do that CLAP cannot (and vice-versa, of course). For my own usecases, LV2 is still vastly superior.

LV2 does not need to rule the world, it just needs to work for what it is set out to be. As a plugin format that allows to build plugins and have them loaded in different hosts, LV2 already works quite well.
Whatever stuff is missing, we can add it.

We need more high quality plugins, not formats

@unfa saying development is being done "in the open" is a bit misleading.

In my opinion feature planning and release schedules are part of development, and those are closed off. There is a LOT of discussion not happening in a the public space.

It is still frustrating seeing this fragmentation.
The past and current effort for clap could have gone to improve LV2, but they were not even interested on such discussions in the first place.

Something like...

1. Waking up at 3am
2. Have breakfast while catching up on things
3. Do some work for a few hours
4. Break at 9am for lunch and groceries
5. Any other pending work
6. Stop when temps get too high again, for sleep till next day

Doesn't seem like the worst of plans.
Let's see if I can actually do it though...

Hot weather has come, really cannot deal with it.
So I am wondering about:

1. Getting up early while it is still dark, doing some work, and then resting while temps rise

2. Waking up late while still hot, work during the night and rest shortly after sun rises

In the past I did option 2 regularly, but now I need to participate on meetings so option 1 will have to do.

@phryk LV2 is an API, you can code against that API and create an LV2 plugin.
There are some plugin frameworks that target LV2 (among other formats), but then you would be coding/targeting such frameworks instead of LV2 directly.

@phryk you dont need any libs to do lv2. unless you mean to do graphics, but that should be a 2nd stage, getting some basic dsp to work should always be the 1st.

@omgubuntu I feel attacked, why does it have to remind me how long programs take to start? Can no longer pretend this 10 year old PC is fast. πŸ˜”
